Fernwood
Brookline, MA
This contemporary residence strives to break down the boundary of interior and exterior architecture. With numerous internal courtyards, the landscape looks to resemble the same scale, materiality and elegance achieved by the interior spaces. Each of the outdoor spaces are designed to relate to the views from within the house, providing the clients with a sense of open air and natural light. Sited next to an existing pond, terraced grading of bluestone curbing and lawn is used to transition the built and manicured landscape to the pond edge and surrounding meadow. The project features a limited palette of plants and hardscape materials, with the intention of creating a coherent and tranquil landscape for the owners to both enjoy and entertain. On the community scale, we worked closely to protect and enhance the existing on-site pond biosystem that serves the neighboring properties.
