University School
Hunting Valley, OH
The University School Upper Campus is located on a wooded site where the experience of woodland ecology was tied into original design and reinforced with the new science building. The courtyard design envisioned the site and landscape as an extension of the academic life of the school. The design opens views to the campus pond, provides site access from the building, and establishes a series of sandstone walls for school meetings. The terrace and step seating located by the pond creates an outdoor classroom where science and art classes can engage with the natural environment. A bioswale included in the courtyard design, collects storm water from the building and walkways.
