Boston College
Chestnut Hill, MA
STIMSON worked in close collaboration with Tsoi Kobus Design and Boston College to create a Comprehensive Plan for four new campus buildings and a two-acre green located in the heart of the College’s historic Middle Campus. We developed a series of design options in response to the many complex programmatic requirements of the site. The resulting Master Plan addresses over twenty-five feet of grade change and establishes a strong public image for the college and visual gateway connecting to the adjacent major intersection. It directs the principle flow of pedestrian traffic through the Middle Campus, creates informal gathering areas, outdoor classrooms and study areas and terraces for two new dining centers. The proposed new spaces also have the flexibility to accommodate major events such as Commencement and Alumni Weekend. The final Comprehensive Plan synthesizes the best features of several schemes to establish a framework for future growth and create a signature space for the College that is simple, elegant and memorable.
