Bentley University
Waltham, MA
Bentley’s existing quadrangle was dominated by architecture and lacked definition. Our redesign redefines this space, introducing a grid of mature tulip poplar trees to create campus character and a pedestrian scale space. At the entry plaza, which serves as a gateway to the university, we placed a row of mature red oaks, defining a permeable edge between streetscape and quadrangle. Additionally, we’ve incorporated generous linear granite benches, providing seating and defining circulation through the space. An existing brick wall was reduced three feet in height and capped with granite and handrails. For fall foliage, the existing honey locust we plan to supplement, completing the quad perimeter planting. Existing shad groves and perennials bulbs in groundcover provides a variety of Spring color as well.
